The Strategy’s NBN E-learning Programs provide opportunities to create innovative approaches to demonstrate the power of broadband to enhance outcomes for learners, and promote growth in broadband-based training as the National Broadband Network (NBN) rollout proceeds.    

The end-of-project showcase events will demonstrate the application, progress and results of projects and featured programs ranging from agriculture to apprentice milliners, aged care, dairy, hospitality and game playing in construction. 

Project teams from South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria and Tasmania will demonstrate their specific projects and training and assessment opportunities under the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Join Australian Communication Exchange (ACE) and Deaf Children Australia to celebrate the launch of regional Australia’s first Video Relay Service Kiosk for Deaf Australians.

 Thanks to Optus’s Regional Community Grant, ACE is able to establish a public VRS kiosk permitting Deaf Australians to make telephone calls to the hearing in sign language, an opportunity which previously did not exist for the Deaf community.  

Bringing equal access to Deaf Australians by providing a means to communicate through telephone services, this initiative allows Deaf Australians to now communicate through telephone services to work colleagues, family and friends.

Join us in Darwin to celebrate better access to communication for Deaf Australians. Feel free to bring friends and family that may be interested in coming along.

What is VRS? The ACE VRS is an online interactive video teleconferencing service. It means a Deaf person, using Auslan, can communicate with a hearing person over the phone, through a video interpreter.  Through the first ever VRS Kiosk launching in Australia, Deaf Australians who are Auslan users are now able to regain confidence and independence as they make their very first calls to their colleagues, friends and loved ones. The Service was first established in 2008, after ACE identified the need for Deaf Australian’s to be able to make phone calls in their first language – Auslan.

MyMoodle is an official Moodle app that allows you to interact with your online courses via your iPhone or iPad. Of course, you must already have access to a Moodle website to use it, but unlike the standard web version, this is Moodle on the run.The features of this app include the ability to download course resources to view offline saving you to be continuously connected to the site. You also have the ability to upload images, video and audio files that you have recorded on your mobile device.

 Working offline is also possible, using a sync function to load your content when you have completed it.  

You can interact with others in your class with the ability to view information about participants and send them private messages. You can also copy their user details into your contacts list and add them to your favourite social networking sites.

Finally you have access to the full Moodle site and all Moodle documentation to help you work through it. This is truly an app that will support the implementation of your LMS making it more accessible and easier to use.

Requirements: Moodle 2.1 or later is REQUIRED to use this app. Mobile web services must also be enabled on the Moodle site. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad .Requires iOS 4.2 or later.

The New Generation Technologies for Learning business activity (incorporating E-standards for Training), of the National VET E-learning Strategy, is committed to maintaining documentation on commonly used e-learning applications but we need your help.

How many times have you heard the term “blended learning” in the eLearning space only to find that although it is used a lot, there is still scope for actual implementation.  This article looks critically at how effective are we at delivering our  training  so the learning goes beyond the lesson or (virtual) classroom.

Chop a funny or interesting section from any YouTube video and share it.
See http://www.tubechop.com/ for an overview and demonstration on how to make those lengthy YouTube clips that contain a minute or two of something really worthwhile into a short, sharp presentation for your learners.  I’m sure you will find a place for this in your program.
